Portland district residents and health professionals are being encouraged to discover the benefits of e-Health reform.

Active Health Portland Clinical Director Dr Marg Garde said the visit to Portland on August 28 and 29 of the Model Healthcare Community National E-Health Transition Authority (NEHTA) roadshow was a great opportunity for the local community to learn about the reforms.

The roadshow is a guided tour that will inform and educate healthcare providers of the key elements of e-Health and NEHTA’s foundation programs.

The personally controlled electronic health record, with your permission, can give access to your personal health information to nominated health care professionals across Australia whenever and wherever you require it.

“This will benefit many Australians such as retirees who choose to travel and others in the community,” Dr Garde added.

Dr Garde said the travelling roadshow might be the only chance for local residents and health professionals to learn directly about the program.

“This is a great opportunity to learn more about your e-Health journey or your patient’s e-Health journey,” she said.

“It will show how this can be achieved to ensure patients are provided with high quality and safe care.”

The visit has been organised by Portland District Health’s Health Information Manager Claire Holt.

The roadshow involves a semi-trailer set up with an interactive display that follows a patient’s journey using multiple services and the benefits to be gained by the Individual healthcare Identifiers (IHI) and in the future, the personally controlled electronic health records (PCEHR).

The tours will be available for groups of about 20 people and will be conducted hourly between 10am and 4pm and must be pre-booked.

Bookings can be made on the PDH website www.swarh2.com.au/pdh or by contacting Ms Adele Curran 55210313.
