Tom Concannon settles in at PDH
Wednesday, 27 March 2013
Portland District Health (PDH) welcomes Tom Concannon to the role of Human Resources (HR) Manager who comes to PDH with an excellent background in Industrial Relations and Human Resource Management.

Born in Ireland, Tom arrived in Australia in 1972 and commenced as an aircraft Engineer in the Air Force for 12 years before moving on to Fluid Power Engineering on leaving the air force.

Industrial Relations (IR) with South Australia (SA) Mining was a change of direction for Tom in the 1990’s and this led to him working with the Employment Advocate’s office and the Commonwealth Government in IR on work choices and legislative change. Tom also worked as a part of the Cole Royal Commission into the Building and Construction Industry.

Transferring to the Department of Premier and Cabinet SA, he worked within Health, Education, Emergency Services and Police agencies. Tom was then seconded to the Department of Health SA, having charge of the governments centralising of a shared service facility for 15 Hospitals effectively centralising HR Operations.

Then moving to Tasmania, he continued to work in HR and IR within Super Funds, the Racing and Gaming Industry, Tote and the fishing/diving industry.

Consulting in Executive Coaching, industrial advocacy and HR Management and related fields for the next ten years, Tom finally found the need for a change and Portland was his area of choice.

Now settled into Portland, Tom enjoys the “Great Outdoors”.  What a perfect choice for him with this area’s and Victoria’s abundance of camping and hiking areas.

Settling into his new surrounds, Tom says of PDH “the environment is friendly and inviting and the hospital is very modern.” Tom is a proactive manager and is hoping to assist all areas within PDH to develop sound management skills through applying a coaching/mentoring and supportive management style.

Commencing with PDH on Monday 25 March, settling in and learning about PDH are the first tasks to be undertaken.
