PDH Receives Full Accreditation

Portland District Health’s reputation for providing high quality and safe care has been confirmed with full accreditation received in its biennial organisation-wide review.

The final accreditation report from the Australian Council of Healthcare Standards has been received after PDH was earlier asked to address issues in relation to re-organising rosters in the Urgent Care Centre and simplifying and rolling out its capacity framework document.

PDH has acted on the recommendations to retain its full accreditation for four years.

The review surveyors praised most facets of the hospital's operations, including several areas described as `meets standards with merit.

CEO Chris Giles said the survey results sent a positive message to the local community.

It is important that the community knows that PDH continues to meet all the required national standards,she said.

PDH makes sure it delivers a quality service across the board and accreditation gives the community confidence that we are achieving those goals.

PDH Board of Management President Mike Noske said the accreditation gives the community surety about the service.

Not only were we accredited but we were accredited with recognition that a lot of the core standards were met with merit,Mr Noske said.

Infection control, electronic medication management, environmental management, falls management and management of pressure sores were among the six areas commended with merit by the surveyors.

The surveyors also congratulated PDH for agreeing to be surveyed on the five optional Equip National Standards in addition to the 10 core Standards.

Mr Noske said it was expected these five additional standards would become mandatory in the next few years. We took the attitude that we should be accredited against them now, before they become mandatory, he said.

Adding to the excellent result, Harbourside Lodge has again maintained full accreditation, the latest cleaning audit achieved a remarkable, Australian-first 100 per cent score, and PDH's community care team has passed the Community Care Common National standards with no recommendations for improvements.
