Portland District Health’s new graduate physiotherapist Elaine Warnecke is taking a broad view of the health of her patients.

While Ms Warnecke is naturally happy to help with injured ankles, knees or whatever specific ailment people might have, she's also keen to take a more holistic view about keeping people on their feet and feeling good.

I like to take a broader view of the person and how their lifestyle might contribute to their condition, she said.

There is a lot of interest scientific research in the field and physios can slip in a bit of health promotion along with helping specific issues and rehabilitation.

The move into physiotherapy was a natural career choice for Ms Warnecke.I like helping people and being hands-on and I enjoyed science at school, she said. Physio combined all of that.

In her first weeks on the job since joining PDH, Ms Warnecke said the profession lives up to expectations.

The position is Ms Warnecke' first job since grading from the University of South Australia. Although she has previously holidayed in south-west Victoria, it's the first time living here for the Adelaide native.

The transition has been a smooth one.

I have been seeing patients in the wards and getting to know local people, she said.

Everyone has been very friendly and welcoming.

Ms Warnecke has joined Portland District Heath' physiotherapy team leader David Gryn in providing services to the community.
