Heart and Lung Transplant Trust (Victoria ) inc. is organizing the 2016 Tour de Transplant, a 5 day cycling challenge from 2nd to 6th March 2016 to help raise funds for HLTTV's Second Chance Accommodation Program. This year for the second time a local Portland girl Rebecca Berry will be riding in the tour along with her fiancé. Rebecca is a recipient of a double lung transplant about 3 years ago.

The Ride

The route will cover 600km along the most amazing and scenic parts of the Great Ocean Road and will be led by Australian cycling legend Phil Anderson. As well as the personal challenge of the ride, participants will be raising funds for HLTTV's Second Chance Accommodation Program.

The Cause

The Alfred is Australia's leading transplant hospital for both adults and children. The Alfred's transplant units don't just provide services to people from Melbourne - people from all over Australia journey to The Alfred to receive this life-saving surgery. For 3 months after transplant, recipients need to attend frequent, often daily, check ups and rehabilitation. This 3 months of care is vital to recovery and long term survival after transplant.

For people who live outside of Melbourne, staying close to the hospital is extremely expensive, and adds a significant financial burden at an already very difficult time. The Second Chance Accommodation Program makes staying near The Alfred affordable for transplant recipients and their carers.

Providing accommodation for 3 months is not cheap. Every $2,500 raised on the Tour will help one family with subsidised accommodation for 3 months; $10,000 covers the cost of one apartment for a whole year and helps 4 recipients and the people who love them.

All donations over $2 are tax-deductible. HLTTV is entirely volunteer run and every dollar goes directly to supporting transplant families.
