Timboon and District Healthcare Service works in partnership with Deakin University to ensure students gain the most knowledge and experience in their chosen field as possible.

Students are able to attend the hospital and other healthcare facilities on placements to gain hands on work experience and practise skills. Students are given the opportunity to work alongside various healthcare professionals to develop an understanding of day-to-day roles within different areas of the healthcare service.

Nursing Student, Lana Hayes commented that her week of community based work experience was "very valuable, it was a side of the nursing field that I had not yet considered."

Miss Hayes thoroughly enjoyed the experience, especially visiting patients with the District Nurses, assisting with the 'Cooking for one' class and partaking in the Timboon Planned Activity Group at the day centre.

Hayes was surprised at the amount and variety of services and programs available at the Timboon and District Healthcare Service and encourages local people to keep an eye out for programs available to them.
