Australians are getting bigger

Sixty two per cent or more than 13 million Australian adults are overweight or obese, and 25 per cent of Australian children are overweight or obese.

We gain weight when we eat more energy (kilojoules) than we use up through exercise or activity. Consuming foods and drinks that are high in kilojoules or eating large amounts of food as well as being less physically active leads to weight gain.

There are lots of weight loss fads and gimmicks out there but in reality most people that lose weight from these types of diets regain their lost weight quickly, actually dieting themselves fatter over time. While there are many diets about, studies have shown that 95% of them do not work in the long term,

We want to help you get it right. To lose weight, keep it off and be healthy and happy for life.

Successful weight loss needs a life-long commitment to a healthy lifestyle, including eating healthy foods and keeping physically active in a way that you can maintain and enjoy.

Why eat better, feel better and move more NOW?

Being a healthy weight helps you live life to the full Eating better food and being active helps you feel healthy and happy If your weight is healthy it is important to keep it healthy If you are overweight losing a few kilograms will make a big difference

The Food For Thought healthy lifestyle programme takes a different approach to weight loss, incorporating healthy eating, physical activity, stress and attitudes towards food as well as providing ongoing support.

‘Food for Thought’ challenges this dieting approach and helps people attain a comfortable weight in a supportive environment. It focuses on setting small and achievable goals with the input of a dietitian, community health nurse, health promotion officer and fitness instructor.

Food for Thought is free and starts at Timboon Healthcare Service on Friday 12th February 2010 at 1pm
