Chiropractor (Private)

Dr. Ross McIlveen visits Timboon every Wednesday. 

Appointments can be made by phoning 5593 3220 Monday to Friday, no referral is necessary.

Dental (Private)

Dr Donna Mercado and associates have commenced a Private Dental Clinic at Timboon & District Healthcare Service every 2nd Saturday.

The Dentists are available to complete the following procedures:

Anyone with a Healthcare Card or Pension Card is eligible to receive this service.

Nutrition

The nutrition service is conducted by a qualified Dietitian who applies nutrition knowledge in the prevention and treatment of human illness in accordance with scientific principles. The Dietitain possesses specialised training in food composition and the psychological, biochemical and social factors relating to human nutrition in health and disease. The Dietitian provides a wide range of services, from individual clinical management of patients, to general nutrition education, health promotion, consultancy and staff and student education.

 

Our Dietitian is available for appointments on the first and third Friday of the month. 

The current fee is $8.80 for Pension and Health Care Card Holders and $13.50 for non card holders. (NOTE, this fee is subject to change at the discretion of the Healthcare Service)

Occupational Therapy

Occupational Therapists are health professionals who are trained to assist people to overcome limitations caused by injury or illness, psychological or emotional difficulties, developmental delay or the effects of aging. They specialise in the rehabilitation of patient?s functional abilities including personal self care, domestic and community living skills.

 

Timboon & District Healthcare Service utilise the services of the Occupational Therapists from South West Healthcare in Warrnambool.

 

A referral from your GP, District Nurse or other Health professional is required and assistance with a referral may be made by contacting the reception staff on (03) 55586049 between 9.00am and 5.00pm Monday to Friday.

 

There is no fee for utilising the Occupational Therapy service however, if payments may be required for any additional works which are required or aids which need to be purchased.

 

Physiotherapy

Physiotherapy is a health care profession which provides services to individuals in order to develop, maintain and restore maximum movement and functional ability throughout life. This includes providing services in circumstances where movement and function are threatened by aging, injury, disease or environmental factors.

 

Physiotherapy is concerned with identifying and maximizing quality of life and movement potential within the spheres of promotion, prevention, treatment/intervention, habilitation and rehabilitation. This encompasses physical, psychological, emotional, and social well being. It involves the interaction between physical therapist (PT), patients/clients, other health professionals, families, care givers, and communities in a process where movement potential is assessed and goals are agreed upon, using knowledge and skills unique to Physiotherapists.

 

The Physiotherapist will use your individual's history and a physical examination to arrive at a diagnosis and establish a management plan, and when necessary, incorporate the results of laboratory and imaging studies.

 

Our Physiotherapist, Bridie Ontronen is available for appointments every Monday, Tuesday and Thursday.

Podiatry (Public)

Podiatrists are health professionals who deal with the prevention, diagnosis treatment and rehabilitation of medical and surgical conditions of the feet and lower limbs. Podiatrists treat conditions resulting from bone and joint disorders such as arthritis and soft tissue and muscular problems as well as neurological and circulatory diseases and lower limb complications such as nail disorders, corns, calluses and in growing toe nails. Foot injuries and infections gained through sport or other activities are also diagnosed and treated by podiatrists.

 

Our Podiatrist is available for appointments between 10.00am and 3.30pm every fourth Tuesday.

 

The current fee is $8.80. (NOTE, this fee is subject to change at the discretion of the Healthcare Service)

NOTE: This service is for Frail Aged or Young Disabled people only and there is currently a waiting list. To be placed on the waiting list for this service please contact the reception staff who will arrange for you to complete the necessary paperwork in order to be placed on this waiting list.

Social Work

Steffi Persson will provide inpatient and community based services to the Timboon and District communities. Social work for inpatients at Timboon and District Healthcare Service aims to make the transition from hospital to home a well-organised process. Steffi’s key responsibilities will be to address the psychological and practical impacts of hospitalisation of patients and their families through the provision of a variety of services. Her services will include counselling, discharge planning, crisis intervention, bereavement counselling, family support, care coordination and referrals to other services.

 

Another key component of the position is to provide a Social Work service to the wider local communities being; Peterborough, Princetown, Port Campbell, Nullawarre, Timboon, Simpson and Cobden. This service offers free and confidential counselling to individuals and families. The main focus will be to provide a range of effective strategies to overcome difficult circumstances. Whether it is an individual or family situation Steffi will be able to provide information, education and counselling regarding a specific issue.

Speech Therapy

The qualified Speech Pathologist provides services to people with communication and eating / swallowing disorders. The Speech Pathologist liaises with teachers, medical staff, other Allied Health and Nursing staff, and parents, to develop comprehensive support programs, and to maximise therapy benefits. Speech Pathology is aimed to assist clients who have difficulties with; articulation (speech), receptive and expressive language, learning and literacy (reading and writing), stuttering, voice, speech and language difficulties associated with hearing loss and intellectual disability.

 

Our Speech Therapist is available for appointments between 9.15am and 2.45pm every Thursday.

Youth Worker

Natasha Neal, Youth Worker, works with young people between the ages of 12 -25 on a one to one basis or in groups. This can be outreach or hospital based. Under her role, Natasha assists Timboon P12 school with welfare support (counselling) for secondary students and is a strong advocate for young people with other service providers. Natasha also assists with preventative education helping to run health, wellbeing and leadership programs to school students. She works in conjunction with other health workers with regard to youth services.
