Psychiatric Services

South West Healthcare provides specialist psychiatric services to South Western Victoria through its:

• Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service - For children aged from new born to 18 years
• Adult Mental Health Services - For adults aged from 18 to 65 years
• Aged Persons Mental Health Service - For Adults aged 65 and over
• Community Residential Care Service - For adults who require longer term inpatient rehabilitation
• Acute Psychiatric Inpatient Unit - Short-term inpatient treatment
• Primary Mental Health Team - Short-term treatment of high prevalence disorders in conjunction with GP clinics. Also Training programs for the public, General Practitioners and the community on Mental Health related issues.

All teams consist of Mental Health Clinicians with specialties based in Psychology, Occupational Therapy, Nursing, Social Work and a Psychiatrist.

South West Healthcare Psychiatric Services Division is funded by The Department of Human Services to provide public inpatient and community based mental health services for the seriously mentally ill, and to provide services under legislation in the Mental Health Act for the South West region of Victoria.

South West Healthcare Psychiatric Services Division provides a comprehensive integrated mental health service to a population of over 110,000 people centred in the regions of the four towns of Warrnambool, Camperdown, Portland and Hamilton. The region covers an area of approximately 26,000 square kilometres and traverses 5 local government areas. Components of the service include a 15-bed acute inpatient unit; a five-bed community residential service and community based multidisciplinary teams for Children and Adolescents, Adults, and Aged Persons.

South West Healthcare Psychiatric Services Division also provides services in conjunction with the Primary Care sector and for persons suffering co-morbid substance use disorders.
