There's more evidence to show why swine flu is fatal to some people but gives others little more than a mild cold.

Dr Claire Gordon was working at a Melbourne hospital intensive care unit last year when she found that the patients who were sickest with swine flu were lacking a protein that helps the body to fight infection and more research suggests that the missing protein is a particular problem for those who have swine flu.
