Team members received the award this week in Warrnambool from Federal Member for Wannon Dan Tehan who praised the team for their exceptional service to Portland.
“Choosing the winners of these awards was one of the toughest jobs I have had to do since being elected to Parliament” Mr Tehan said when presenting the National Volunteer Awards for International Volunteer Day.From Monday to Friday, about 30 people receive calls from trained Telecare Team volunteers. If the call is not answered, the volunteer ensures there’s a follow-up.
“This is an amazing program that gives people with poor health the opportunity to stay at home, and know that someone will be checking on them” Mr Tehan said.
On hand to accept the ward were Pat Barker, Nola Brogan, Ellie Lane, Margaret Logan, Heather Buckley, Gail Nepean, Heather Burton, Margrett Oates and Hazel Short, along with Carolyn Malseed from Portland District Health, who nominated the group and also volunteers.
Volunteers not able to attend were Maureen Allan, Carol Boyadjian, Lyn Buchanan, Jenny Godfrey, Betty Hollis, Jennifer Hutchins, Pauline McDonald, Ann Parry, Vicki Purchase, Val Pike and Jo Simpson.
