Port Fairy Hospital is an integral part of Moyne Health Services. We aim to provide patients with the highest quality care within a warm and friendly environment.
Moyne Health Services has been fully accredited by the Australian Council on Healthcare Standards (ACHS). The Hospital undergoes regular surveys by highly qualified independent peers to assess the Hospital’s quality of services.
Our admissions staff are located at the main reception area. They are waiting to receive you on arrival at the Hospital and will advise you on any queries you may have regarding admission procedures and expectations.
The Port Fairy Hospital is committed to providing the highest level of care for all patients. Patients have the right to elect to be treated as a public or private patient. Election to be treated as a private patient provides you with the right to nominate the medical practitioner who will provide your medical care.
Admission as a Private Patient
You can elect to be admitted as a private patient if you:
On discharge, the Hospital will arrange at your request and, on your behalf, to claim the cost of your hospital accommodation from your health insurance fund. It would be appreciated if you could bring details of your insurance coverage with you to Hospital..
Admission as a Public Patient
For public patients, hospital and medical costs are covered by Medicare. This is with the exception of telephone accounts, newspapers and some equipment hire charges.
Admission as a Compensable Patient
If you are, or may be, entitled to compensation or other benefits in respect of the injury, illness or disease for which you are receiving Hospital care and medical treatment, all fees and charges may be met by your compensation.
Admission as a Veterans’ Affairs Patient
Veterans’ Affairs patients are those for whom the Department of Veterans’ Affairs have agreed to accept responsibility for Hospital charges for the condition for which you are being admitted.
Visiting hours are daily between 2.00 pm – 8.00 pm and are designed to ensure maximum flexibility and convenience for you, your family and friends.
Visiting outside of these hours may be possible with the permission of the nurse in charge. For your privacy and well-being, visitors are requested to seek the approval of the Nurse-in-Charge before entering the ward.

Discharge time is 10:30am to allow sufficient time for rooms to be organised for new patients. Planning your discharge will take place during your stay in hospital. You are encouraged to discuss your needs with the nursing staff.
Most patients will be given a 'Checklist for going home' envelope on admission to assist you in gathering informationyou may require for a safe and effective discharge home.
This also helps you to know when to arrange for someone to collect you.
As part of our discharge planning, our staff will pre-arrange assistance such as Meals on wheels, District Nursing and Home Help if these are required. They will also assist in making follow up appointments with your doctor and ensure pharmacy prescriptions for medications are available.
Transport home is the responsibility of the patient or family. Please ensure arrangements have been made prior to your discharge. Reception can arrange a taxi for you, at your request.
