School Leavers

The Lorne Community Hospital is dedicated to ensuring school leavers are able to celebrate their achievements safely.

The Hospital offers support to young school leavers during their stay in Lorne by providing a range of health initiatives, including 24 hour urgent care services at the hospital, and youth friendly nursing outreach services at specific times during the school levers period located at the Lorne Pharmacy.

Nursing Staff at the Lorne Community Hospital receive regular education on issues related to drug and alcohol use and sexual health as they relate to young people. Additionally, The Lorne and Airey's Medical Centre provides youth friendly general practice consultation and afterhours services for urgent medical assistance.

The Surf Coast School Leaver's Working Group, of which Lorne Community Hospital is a member, is dedicated to minimising the harmful impacts of annual school leavers' celebrations.

The group includes representatives from health services, youth service providers, Surf Coast Shire, emergency services, land managers, local tourism and business organisations and local residents.

The School Leaver's Working Group has built strong relationships between local organisations and the community, and works to support young people during the school leaver's period. Dates for 2011 school leavers' period are November to December.
