The Family Alcohol and Other Drug Program will be starting a 6 week support program for people who are affected by substance use of a family member or friend.
The Support Program will commence on Monday 5 March 2012 at the Colac Area Health Otway Blue Room, from 1–2.30 pm. The Program is free and runs for 6 weeks. The Support Program is aimed at those people who are affected by a family member or friend’s alcohol or drug use. The group is not for people currently using substances. The person using drugs and alcohol may be a part of the family and can include, a partner, parent, child, brother or sister or a part of the extended family such as an aunt or uncle. Would just put in this sentence It would also suit anybody who has a relative or close friend using alcohol or drugs. In a supportive environment the group will offer participants the opportunity to discuss how a person’s drug and alcohol use impacts on them. The Program will cover dealing with the feelings around the impact of another’s substance use, coping with those feelings, education and support, learning new skills and moving forward. Further counselling options will be available to participants after the completion of the group.
