Colac Area Health co-ordinate a number of programs for new and current staff. Each program aims to provide support to the participant as they transition into a new area or role.

Graduate Nurse Program
The Graduate Nurse Program can be undertaken full time or part time. Five to six positions are available each year.
The program includes three rotations in areas such as the Acute Ward, Community Nursing, Urgent Care, Perioperative Services and Residential Aged Care. Supernumerary placements are in areas including Midwifery, Ambulance Victoria, Haemodialysis.

Graduate Diploma in Nursing (Perioperative)
The Graduate Diploma of Nursing (Perioperative) is currently offered at Colac Area Health in conjunction with Deakin University.
This program offers a well rounded experience with exposure to areas of pre-operative, intra-operative and post-operative care. An external rotation at a tertiary hospital to gain exposure to services not offered at Colac Area Health is also available.

Student Midwifery Program
Colac Area Health offers the student midwife program to those studying a Graduate Diploma of Midwifery at the University of Ballarat.
This program offers a significant amount of supernumerary time in maternity services covering a range of areas on a daily basis. Areas include birthing suite, antenatal appointments, post natal care and domiciliary visits. An external placement at a tertiary hospital special care nursery and with the maternal and child health nurse is also available.

Graduate Midwifery Program
The graduate midwifery program offers a supportive program where the graduate midwife can further develop their knowledge and skills in areas of midwifery including antenatal, intra partum and post natal care. The opportunity also exists to participate in a relevant midwifery conference and complete placement at a tertiary maternity service.

As a teaching facility, Colac Area Health annually accommodates more than 100 students from different education providers and disciplines. Staff development facilities include a tutorial room, a simulation room and video-conferencing for outreach education.
